yohoowww~ setelah sekian lama ga posting, sekarang sy mau nyoba sharing tentang tugas kuliah. kali ini tugas kuliahnya makul Prose disemester 5. tugasnya bikin respon dari karya sastra cerita pendek berjudul Harrison Bergeron. cekidot...
Response Journal Of Harisson Bergeron
Well, exactly i don’t
know where should i start to tell. The point is this short story is such a
fool. It started from an era in 2081 humans
were equal in every way so that there are no competitions in the world. I think
life without competition is really boring. Ofcourse, when all things in this
world changed into resemblance, there will be nothing special, there will be
human who try for struggling something to be achieved.
I felt a little curious
about the writer of this short story then i searched information about him in
internet. Then i found myself on amazement because the writer, Kurt Vennegut
Jr. is one of famous story writer in America. He also got some appreciations
for his prose. That was comparable with his suffering life in 1970 when his
sister died, fallen apart with his wife
and her son was suffering a heavy disease. Fotunately, he died in 2007.
Now we just can appreciate his prose. Well, about his prose, Vonnegut powerly
expressed his sense that corporate greed, overpopulation and war would in the end
win out over simple humanity.
I think Vennegut made
this short story to insinuate American goverment that nowadays causes a
commotion about equality in the country. All of the citizens are regarded to be
equal with no exception. It might be a good reason why Vennegut created this
story by imagining gloomy future that would happen if resemblance led
everything.
From point of view, i
think Vennegut took omniscent point, where, he didn’t indicate one of the
character as media of his story. Every character has their own role. Eventhought
the title of the story is Harisson Bergeron, i don’t think that Harisson is the
main character here. Isn’t main character a character that dominate the story?
But Harisson didn’t dominate the story i guess. All characters have role in
nearly same portion.
It is good to take
omnicent as the point of view because the writer can control the situation
toward the characters to be read by readers. Vennegut is out of the story, just as an observer who knows every
characters well. With this, he can tell everything which is needed and can
control the story everytime. The used language often showed instructions that something
is done by another person.
Although, Diana Moon
Glampers is a flat character, which appears in a little portion of the story,
but her role is really affecting. She just appeared once in the last of the
story that finally killed Harisson, who tried to rebel toward this gloomy
equality world. Her coming closed the story out by healing the destruction by
Harrison so that the world was getting saved from a rebel like Harisson (in her
and goverment view).
Vennegut succeed to
make me feel dreadful to imagine a gloomy future like this story. I think to
live in the equality with handicap set up on our body like George, Hazel,
Harisson and the others do is really boring. Bringing about forty-pond-heavy
thing, covering our face by mask, and other rules that is set up by the
goverment is not a good choice to develope our life in all ways. By the way,
eventhough there are some words that i can not identify the meaning, but the
story is can be understood enough.
Well, overall this
story is such a tickling and interesting enough. I think it would be bad if the
future like that happend. Because distinction is good. People have distinction
to recognize and respect each other. Distinction might causes competition, but
a good competition is proper to be preserved. Competition means people try to
show their abilities and try to get “excess” than the others to meet their
achievement. When we try hard to get something and finally we get it, there
will be a satisfied in ourselves, right? But if we try our best and we get lost
to achieve our goal because the goverment emphasized the equality like
handicapper general does in the story, all of our struggles are useless and it
makes us depressed. Well, don’t you think that sometimes equality will not
bring us to the improvement? I can get these conclusions toward this Vennegut’s
short story.
